Recreational meetings for seniors in cooperation with the Sempers

Loneliness among the elderly and poverty among the elderly are major social challenges of our time. The pandemic and the resulting forced separation from the community has further increased loneliness in the population, especially among seniors. In Saxony-Anhalt, for example, over 40% of people over the age of 65 live alone. With the Aktivtreffs for seniors, we want to effectively counter these social issues as well as old-age poverty and loneliness in cooperation with the Sempers.

Since the beginning of 2023, TAG and Sempers have been cooperating at currently three residential locations in TAG's portfolio in Döbeln, Merseburg and Erfurt Melchendorf. There, as in most of TAG's neighbourhoods, there are many elderly people. Sempers e.V. takes the needs of older people seriously and is therefore an important partner for TAG.

The monthly program can be actively shaped by the seniors and invites them to exchange ideas over coffee and cake, to workshops, readings, joint excursions, sports or games. The joint meetings strengthen older people cognitively and emotionally. Actions outside the senior citizens' meeting place, such as bowling, hiking, bicycle tours or picnics in the park, are also quite new. 

Regular events in the Sempers Café, advice on age-appropriate living and support, e.g. in dealing with the authorities, show older people appreciation and respect in the neighbourhood. The Aktivtreffs thus offer seniors at risk of loneliness the opportunity to exchange ideas with other people, enable them to enjoy good social interaction, and thus strengthen coexistence and the quality of life in the neighbourhood.

EPRA OCS Award 2023

We were chosen as the winner of the "EPRA Outstanding Contribution to Society Award 2023" in the social category with our sustainability commitment "Leisure meeting places for senior citizens", which we implemented in cooperation with the Sempers at our sites in Döbeln, Merseburg and Erfurt Melchendorf.

Out of 23 social initiatives submitted by various European real estate companies, we made it to the five finalists. In the final, we won ahead of four other finalists from the UK, the Netherlands, Spain and Germany.

We are delighted about this award and the recognition of our social commitment to older people in our neighbourhoods.
