Mobility projects

In Gera, we launched an automated electric minibus called “EMMA” in collaboration with the Duale Hochschule Gera, Geraer Verkehrsbetriebe and the Fischer Academy. EMMA drove through our neighbourhood for the first time in 2020, shuttling our tenants between their flat, the supermarket and the nearest possible public transport connection.

In the Lusan district of Gera, we launched another pilot project in 2022 in cooperation with the Fischer Academy and the Exner car dealership. “Small, Intelligent, Mobile, Innovative”: for six months, young people with a class AM driving licence were able to borrow the small e-car free of charge in the neighbourhood.

In Gera-Lusan, together with our cooperation partner Elmo, there has been a hire station for electric vehicles that can be used by older people and people with walking disabilities since 2021. This makes it easier for you to manage your everyday life and take a self-determined tour through the neighbourhood or into the city forest.

In the “RoboTraces” research project, we tested the delivery robot “Robbie” in the Gera-Lusan district in 2023 together with the Hochschule Schmalkalden, REWE and Caritas. As part of the project, valuable data was collected on how the friendly everyday helper operates safely in the neighbourhood and is accepted by residents.

In 2025, our building service tested the HOPPER e-bike, an innovative, small-town e-mobility solution that covers short distances in the neighbourhood in an environmentally friendly way. In this way, we can not only strengthen neighbourly interaction in our residential districts, but also shape living spaces sustainably with our commitment.
